Lens Implant Surgery with No Side Effects,
Determining the Right Lens Size is Key.
Patented Biocompatible Collamer
(Collagen + Polymer)
EVO ICL lenses are equipped with a built-in UV absorber, effectively blocking over 90% of ultraviolet rays.
By serving as a protective shield against UV exposure, these lenses help prevent eye conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration.

Implantable Collamer Lens(ICL)Surgery
Seoul, Korea
Why Choose ICL?
- ICL involves implanting a thin, biocompatible lens inside the eye—behind the iris and in front of the natural lens—so the natural lens remains intact.
- It offers excellent visual acuity for patients with high refractive errors, thin corneas, or other contraindications for LASIK/LASEK.
- Because the lens is removable/changeable, it gives future flexibility in vision correction.
- Rapid visual recovery and minimal discomfort compared to some other procedures.
Suitability Checklist ✅
Patients may be appropriate for ICL if they meet most of the following:
- Age 21 or older (eye growth stabilised)
- Stable prescription for at least 12 months
- High myopia (e.g., –6.00 D or more) or high astigmatism
- Corneal thickness or shape that makes laser refractive surgery less ideal
- Good general eye health (no uncontrolled glaucoma, cataract, severe dry eye, etc.)
- Realistic expectations and commitment to follow-up care
Pre-Surgery Consultation & Testing
At Apgujeong Eye Clinic we provide:
- Comprehensive eye exam (refraction, corneal mapping, anterior chamber depth, intraocular pressure, lens status)
- Discussion of your visual goals, lifestyle and medical history
- Explanation of lens types (toric vs non-toric), positioning, risks and recovery
- Customised simulation/planning of ICL placement
- Informed consent: procedure benefits, risks (e.g., infection, intra-ocular pressure rise, lens decentration)
The ICL Procedure – Step by Step
- Arrival and check-in at the clinic (approximately 30 min before)
- Local/ topical anaesthesia (eye drops)
- A very small incision is made in the cornea to insert the collamer lens into the eye
- The lens is positioned behind the iris, in front of the natural lens
- Incision may be self-sealing or require a tiny stitch (depending on surgeon)
- Post-implantation check, application of antibiotic/anti-inflammatory eye drops
- Short wait period in recovery before discharge (often same-day)
Post-Operative Care
- Rest for a few hours; avoid strenuous activity for at least 24-48 h
- Use prescribed eye drops (antibiotic + anti-inflammatory) as directed
- Wear protective eyewear at night for a few days (as advised)
- Avoid rubbing the eyes, swimming, sauna, heavy lifting for first 1-2 weeks
- Follow-up visits: usually next day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months
- Report any sudden pain, vision loss, flashes or increased redness immediately
Benefits & What to Expect
- Clearer vision often noticeable within hours to days
- Ability to maintain good vision without glasses/contact lenses in many cases
- Minimal downtime: many patients resume usual routine within days
- Reversible procedure: ICL can be removed/replaced if required
- Long-term results: the collamer lens is designed for durability and compatibility
Risks & Considerations
As with any surgery, there are risks — your surgeon will evaluate suitability in detail. Potential complications include:
- Increased intra-ocular pressure (IOP)
- Cataract formation (though less likely than older lens types)
- Lens mis-positioning or decentration
- Glare or halo around lights (especially in dim light)
- Infection or inflammation (rare)
- Need for future lens exchange or removal
BGSS Eye Clinic – Our Differentiating Advantages
Recognized as one of Korea’s most experienced ICL centers, BGSS Eye Clinic has performed more than 66,000 lens implantation procedures since introducing ICL surgery in Korea in 2002. With decades of surgical experience, the clinic has become widely known for treating patients with high myopia, thin corneas, astigmatism, and complex vision correction cases that may not be ideal for LASIK or SMILE LASIK.
Its long-standing focus on EVO ICL and Toric ICL surgery, combined with advanced diagnostic technology and customized lens sizing systems, has helped establish BGSS Eye Clinic as a globally recognized destination for premium vision correction in Seoul. Many international patients choose the clinic for its extensive surgical track record, precision-based screening protocols, and structured follow-up care designed for long-term visual stability and safety.
10 Reasons to Visit BGSS Eye Clinic for ICL
1. Korea’s Highest-Volume ICL Experience
BGSS Eye Clinic is widely recognized for its extensive EVO ICL surgical experience in Korea, with over 66,000 accumulated ICL procedures since the introduction of lens implantation surgery in Korea in 2002. This long-term clinical volume gives the clinic significant expertise in managing high myopia, astigmatism, thin corneas, and complex refractive cases.
2. Led by Global ICL Pioneer Dr. Jong-Ho Lee
Jong-Ho Lee is internationally recognized in the field of implantable collamer lens surgery. BGSS highlights his role in global ICL education, clinical presentations, and development of advanced toric ICL methodologies for astigmatism correction.
3. Advanced V-Toric ICL Astigmatism Technology
BGSS emphasizes its proprietary V-Toric ICL positioning and sizing algorithm designed to reduce rotational instability in toric lenses. The clinic focuses heavily on long-term rotational stability and customized lens sizing rather than standardized oversizing approaches.
4. Expertise in Complex & High Myopia Cases
Patients with:
- Extreme myopia
- Thin corneas
- Dry eye concerns
- Irregular corneal parameters
- High astigmatism
often seek ICL surgery because corneal laser procedures like LASIK or SMILE may not be ideal candidates. BGSS positions itself as a referral-level center for complicated refractive correction cases.
5. Same-Day EVO+ ICL Surgery System
BGSS promotes its EVO+ ICL same-day bilateral surgery workflow, allowing both eyes to be treated efficiently with reduced downtime compared to older staged ICL approaches. This is particularly attractive for international medical travelers visiting Korea for shorter stays.
6. Strong International Reputation
The clinic markets itself as a globally recognized ICL-specialized eye center and frequently participates in:
- International ophthalmology conferences
- Clinical research presentations
- ICL surgeon training programs
- Cross-border refractive surgery education
This international visibility helps build E-E-A-T credibility for foreign patients researching Korean eye surgery clinics.
7. Presbyopia ICL Viva Experience
BGSS also promotes Korea’s early adoption of Presbyopia ICL Viva technology for patients in their 40s and 50s who need both distance and near-vision correction. The clinic references collaboration and research connected to presbyopia-focused lens implantation developments.
8. Long-Term Surgical Safety Focus
Unlike some high-volume refractive centers focused primarily on speed, BGSS emphasizes:
- Vault analysis
- Lens sizing precision
- Anterior chamber depth evaluation
- Rotational stability
- Long-term safety monitoring
- Side-effect risk management over decades
This approach appeals to patients prioritizing safety and long-term lens compatibility.
9. Dedicated Refractive Surgery Infrastructure
BGSS operates as a specialized refractive surgery center rather than a general ophthalmology clinic. The clinic focuses heavily on:
- EVO ICL
- Toric ICL
- SMILE LASIK
- Presbyopia correction
- Advanced diagnostic imaging
The workflow is structured specifically around refractive surgery evaluation and postoperative management.
10. Foreign-Patient Friendly Seoul & Busan Network
BGSS Eye Clinic and its Busan network are commonly promoted toward international patients seeking:
- English consultation support
- Airport-accessible treatment
- Fast surgery scheduling
- Medical tourism coordination
- Detailed pre-op screening
This makes the clinic especially visible among foreign patients researching vision correction surgery in Korea.
Why Many International Patients Consider BGSS for EVO ICL
Patients researching EVO ICL surgery in Korea often compare:
- Surgical volume
- Surgeon experience
- Long-term safety philosophy
- Astigmatism correction precision
- Diagnostic systems
- International patient support
BGSS differentiates itself primarily through its high ICL case volume, international academic positioning, and specialization in complex lens implantation cases.
Important Considerations Before Choosing Any ICL Clinic
Regardless of clinic choice, patients should evaluate:
- Surgeon-specific EVO ICL experience
- Vault prediction accuracy
- Toric rotation management
- Corneal/endothelial safety checks
- Lens exchange policy
- Follow-up system
- Emergency management protocols
- Realistic candidacy assessment
- Not every patient is an ideal candidate for EVO ICL, and detailed preoperative diagnostics remain critical.
